TheoLand

TheoLand is an accessible, text-based virtual world. It is sort of like virtual reality, but without the pictures. It is a multiplayer experience, meaning that you can meet other people and type out messages to them on your keyboard.

How does it work?

The virtual world is based on a framework called Moo (which you probably won't have heard of up till now). You just connect to the world, and then type out simple text commands to go places, look at objects, and more.

On the technical side, it uses a type of connection called telnet to connect you to the world.

How can one get started?

Getting started is really simple and should take less than 5 minutes. You first need a MUD client on your device, the most accessible and easiest to set up is MUDRammer for iOS. If you don't have an iOS device, or would rather connect from your computer, there are other options including MUSHclient for Windows and Mudlet for Mac (sadly no good ones for Android at present).

Once you have got that up and running, you need to connect to the world. If using MUDRammer for iOS or another app or OS supporting quick connect you can simply select this link to connect straight away. If you find yourself needing to connect manually, here are the details:
